Dermaplaning is an exfoliation style of treatment that’s carried out with a blade to remove dead skin cells from the top layer of skin on the face. Dermaplaning is recommended for most skin types EXCEPT those with ACTIVE ACNE & you should wait until breakouts are clear before having this treatment. This treatment can be carried out every 3/6 weeks. Male clients - Dermaplaning should not remove 'terminal hair' (beards). Our customers with darker skins types - Fitzpatrick 4, 5 & 6 will require a skin suitability test. Darker skin types have more melanin and MAY BE more prone to hyperpigmentation. Treatment to the epidermis can result in post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). While microneedling intentionally creates controlled micro-injuries to the skin, there is still a risk of triggering PIH or have potential for uneven pigmentation. To avoid this we ensure the skin has adequate time to heal between treatments - this is essential. Out patch test will require minimal needling behind the ear & a review 10 to 14 days afterwards to consider PIH. Despite the concerns surrounding microneedling on dark skin tones, there are numerous benefits to be gained from the procedure.
